Isole Borromee e trenino delle Centovall

How to arrive:

By car: if you come from  Milan, take the A8 motorway towards the lakes (Laghi - Sesto Calende), continue on the A26 motorway towards  Gravellona Toce. On the A26 you can take the Arona exit and then follow the SS33 up to Stresa for about 18 km following the panoramic road.

By train: line  Milan-DomodossolaStresa stop. From the station you can reach the city center walking for about 5 minutes.

Stresa:

Stresa is the real jewel in the crown of Maggiore Lake with the streets of the picturesque center full of shops and cafes. You can walk along the lakefront  where you can see the luxurios Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées where Ernest Hemingway stayed in 1918 making this hotel famous all over the world.

From Stresa we will embark for the Borromean Islands, first of all we will visit "l'isola madre".

Gustave Flaubert , one of the greatest writers of the 19th century, said: «Isola Madre is the most voluptuous place I've ever seen in the world".

We will visit the magnificent Borromeo palace surrounded by a floral English garden.

After the visit of this island we will continue to Isola dei Pescatori.

Here we will have a stop for a lunch break in one of the many restaurants on the island.

After the lunch break the journey will continue to Isola Bella where it is possible to visit the beautiful palace of the Borromeo family  overlooking the beautiful  Italian baroque garden.

The team work of architects, engineers, plasterers, painters and cabinetmakers has given life to a princely palace that boasts four centuries of history: the famous caves covered with pebbles, pebbles and tuff fragments await me, but I would also like to review the Berthier Gallery with its baroque paintings, the Throne and Queens Hall and the Napoleon Hall, where the famous French general stayed with his wife Giuseppina

If you visit the floral garden you must stop in front of the Massimo theater: decorated with statues that symbolize the four elements: air, water, earth and fire. The building is surmounted by a unicorn that points towards the sky.

At the end of the visit of the island, we'll come back to Stresa where you will have free time for shopping.
